Illuminating Women in Architecture
One of my passions is advocating for the expansion of the role of women in the architectural field (see here). While the percentage and perception of women in our community has increased, and recent spotlights on the the causes of the loss of females in our profession has built momentum for consciously retaining and growing lady-talent, there is still ongoing work to be done to increase the visibility of Woman-as-Architect.
Thus began a simple project to showcase women doing what we do everyday on an online platform used daily by many (or hourly) - women designing, women leading, women educating, women sketching, women detailing, women with hardhats, women building models - women who architect. Inspired by Wikipedia hacks to increase the visibility of female architects online, the goal is to saturate a small slice of the internet with something as simple as these active images and videos of women at work in architecture - normalizing what we see, do, hear, and experience on a daily basis. This is too important not to share.
