Iceland Snapshots
Processing September's trip to Iceland has begun. Above are some of my favorite shots of the textures found in Iceland's landscape and built environment.
This trip took us around perimeter of the island country in a little Ford Kuga, along the Ring Road Route 1 that connects the majority of Iceland. We stopped at as many geothermal baths as possible - the most memorable was at Grettislaug along the seashore in an ice cold drizzle with the adjacent mountains heavily shrouded in mist, although watching the brilliant sunset at Mývatn Nature Baths is a good second. Glaciers, volcanos, waterfalls, or the sea were always in sight - frequently, all four were easily and overwhelmingly in view. Sheep, Icelandic horses, and bales of hay dotted the fields and mountainsides. The Northern Lights were nightly showstoppers, and were unusually powerful during our trip. We were unable to make it to the West Fjords and the extreme north east, and eagerly await our return. I jokingly tell my husband that we will learn Icelandic (a notoriously difficult language), pack up our dogs, and move there - but am kind of serious, as we both fell hard for this place.
Paired with the above photos from the big camera are iPhone shots below.
