Compiling these is more difficult than it looks. Apparently I only read the New York Times this week.
Documenting the Disappearing Glaciers of Iceland
Kathy Ryan is the Director of Photography at the NYTMagazine. This is her seriously beautiful instagram, which includes photos for a series-of-hashtags-turned-book “Office Romance” that capture the people, spaces, and light around her workspace in the New York Times building designed by Renzo Piano. The light filtering through the terracotta brise soleil is striated and angled and I love getting a behind the scenes look at way that these fabulous journalists and artists work, and the way they inhabit their build environment.
This could be a game changer for re-establishing a resilient city, urban fabric, and access to affordable housing through public policy and zoning - looking forward to seeing how this changes Minneapolis.
So much work goes into movie special effects; this was an awesome read from Vulture on the how crazy movie magic is made from the visual artists that make it happen - 36 filmmakers, cinematographers, and effects artists on making the impossible happen.
Speaking of movies, Downton Abbey returns - to the big screen - in 2019. A teaser trailer dropped this past week. Nothing of the plot was revealed nor were there any images of characters, but there are beautiful shots of Highclere Castle where the show and soon to be movie are set. Also, the strings in the intro music get me every time.
